What Is Advent

This month our Church is celebrating Advent in preparation for Christmas fast approaching.

What is Advent?

John Piper describes it this way in his free book “Good News Of Great Joy: Daily Readings for Advent“:

Advent is for adoring Jesus. At least that’s our angle on itat Desiring God.Advent is an annual season of patient waiting, hopeful expectation, soul-searching, and calendar-watching marked by many churches, Christian families, and individual followers of Jesus. There’s no biblical mandate to observe Advent. It’s an optional thing—a tradition that developed over the course of the church’s history as a time of preparation for Christmas Day. Many of us find observing Advent to be personally enjoyable and spiritually profitable.

Perhaps you also would like to take part, or maybe you already are in the practice of Advent. Try the link above for your free copy of John Piper’s devotional from or click here. Simply select your preferred format and enjoy! May God use this time to do a mighty work in all of us.

In Mosul, ISIS militants marked with a spray-painted ن (the Arabic letter for “N”) all Christian property to be seized after the ultimatum. “N”, or ن, is the first letter of the Arabic word for Christian, “Nasrani” or Nazarene. #pray4thepersecuted
