The Faithbook

A place of writing and reflection…

Why “thefaithbook” ?

A few years ago, my shepherd group leader gave me a book called Faith Books & Spiritual Journaling: Expressions of Faith through Art. It was about making booklets in which you could store all your thoughts and prayers to God. One was made in accordion style with the entire book unfolding to reveal its contents. Others were styled after scrapbooks; their pages filled with pictures and charms.

Being an “arts n’ crafts” type of person, it was obvious why my leader had selected the book, but in her explanation, she gave a slightly different reason.

In our talks, it was easier for me to discuss the daily happening of my life than it was to speak about the spiritual. While I could describe how happy the sunshine and warm weather made me, I could say little about the previous Sunday’s service. Thus she had given me the book as a way of expressing what I lacked in words.

Over time, I began to pick up a method of writing in which I expressed a simple thought or picture. This is not something new to me. I still have writings on my ill-neglected MySpace that I wrote as far back as high school. Now about to graduate Bible College, I have picked up the pen (or keypad) and begun to write.

However, once I write I cannot keep it to myself – not even in a diary. I have to share it, not because I think the words are so elegantly laid out, but because they were meant to be shared.

Out of this and a growing conviction to do so, “The Faithbook” was born. Its name comes from the book I was given as well as the content of the writing you’ll find here.

Louie Giglio on his Hope Passion Talk says, “Everyone is broadcasting something. What are you broadcasting with your life?” Here I plan to broadcast the faith given to me by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the words He has placed on my heart to share with you. I hope that you will be as touched by them as I have been in writing them and thank you for taking the time to read them.

The booklets for connecting faith and the arts is a really great idea. Loved this post. Thank you.

Thank you for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I’ve written, and even more as they respond.

I write mainly about faith and mental illness, though I’m known to dabble in other subjects, stories, and poems as well. If you have any requests, please contact me.

I appreciate what you are doing here with your blog. May God bless your life and writing, as you bless others.

Thank you in return. There needs to be more people writing about the difficulties of life seeing there are so many who struggle with the very same thing—even I have fallen victim to such thoughts and struggles in the past.
Thank you so much for persevering through those times and sharing them so others may have hope. I hope God continues to bless you and your work and that people continue to respond (most of all to God) after reading your words. It’s people like you that spurn me on to maintain the work started here.
      Thank you!
